Ryan Eicher is a Maryland-based artist who creates colorful and mesmerizing snakes by blowing glass. The artist has been blowing glass for 15 years and making snakes for around 10 years.

DeMilked reached out to him and asked him about his inspiration for creating these serpents. The artist revealed, “I love lampworking, the process of using a torch to melt and stretch glass is very stimulating. I love the organic shapes and the sort of whimsical nature of hot glass. I saw a guy blowing glass at a music festival when I was 18 and it piqued my curiosity. A friend and I set up a small studio in their backyard and started watching youtube videos and reading forums to learn about techniques. I actually didn’t take a class until recently. I think I could have developed my skills a lot quicker taking classes earlier but I also had to get very creative within my abilities, which I think helped me develop as a designer.”

When we asked why he chooses to make snakes, he replied, “I’ve always liked snakes, even as a toddler if my family went somewhere with a pond I would circle around the edge and try to catch all the critters basking in the sun. I think snakes in particular get kind of a bad rap, a lot of people have a justifiable fear of them, but they are generally harmless. I like how the image of a snake evokes a strong reaction from people, either fear or love, and when I can get a reaction from people looking at my work I know I did good.” Scroll below to see some of his breathtaking works.
