what would we do without shelves? we’d have nowhere to place our most treasured collections, books, or memorabilia. but one should never take a shelf for granted — a well-curated shelf is really one of your best friends. there are people who do it so well, and those are the shelves to emulate. leanne ford, kara rosenlund and sibella court know their way around styling a great looking, eclectic shelf. i like to think i’m pretty good at it, and not sure i have a method to my madness — so i find it a little hard to ‘teach’ so to speak, but keeping a well-balanced, cohesive color palette is key. not too many mismash of colors, just take for instance most of these shelves which sometimes are minimal, and some not so much — but the colors of the objects upon them are neutrals. black, tan, white — all of these look great together. which is not to say you can’t use color (like in the case of the green tones a few shelves down) but, just stay true to the color palette family, if that makes sense! the ultimate to desire is simply to show off those mementos that tell the story of you, so happy shelving!
