The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has restricted all of us to our homes, and we find ourselves spending the majority of our time in our houses. However, in our attempt to escape the outside world and protect ourselves, are we ignoring the quality of safety of our own homes? We have to take every factor of our house into consideration, including air quality. The quality of air in our homes can greatly impact our lungs and respiratory system, and with the COVID-19 virus directly attacking our lungs, we need to ensure that the air we breathe is clean, breathable, and safe. Hence, keeping a highly functional air purifier of premium quality in our homes has become a necessity. We’ve curated a collection of effective, well-engineered, and high-performing air purifiers to ensure that the air in your home is as breathable and clean as it can be!

With the design that looks like a cross between a terrarium and an Apple Homepod, the Briiv is a modern-looking air purifier that adds a touch of green to your apartment. The filter comes with a special, sustainably-grown, dried moss on the inside that naturally purifies the air by trapping harmful particles, killing microorganisms, and releasing clean, fresh air. Sitting underneath the moss are multiple bio-filters, including one made from loosely woven coconut fibers, another filter comprising carbon-infused hemp, and a woolen microfiber filter that together combines to filter particles as small as PM 0.3 while also trapping and neutralizing bacteria, molds, and other volatile organic compounds to give you air that’s been freshened naturally, in a filter that’s designed to be the equivalent of as many as 3000 house plants in one device.

Air O is the perfect fusion of a purifier and a planter that not only frees up and makes the corners of your home look tidy, it also gives your interior style a minimalistic upgrade. You can control Air O through an app on your smartphone and get timely reports on the air quality or notifications about changing the filters. The designer’s idea to combine plants with an air purifier was like adding a turbocharger to make the appliance perform better while retaining the soothing presence of plants. The appliance is designed to look like a luxury plant holder with pineapple-like grooves that add texture to the otherwise matte black gadget. Air O’s sleek make it a perfect fit in any space and you won’t have to worry about a bulky air purifier being an eyesore in your home

Air Wave performs all the functions of an ideal air purifier but also manages to take it up a notch. It functions as a piece of furniture as well, seamlessly merging into the interiors of your home, with a colorful twist! Adapting to the changing trends of residential spaces, Air Wave cohesively compliments any living area it is placed into. Circular and tubular in shape, with four legs to support it, the purifier has been embellished with four curvy lines that serve as motifs representing the flow and movement of air. Resembling waves, the lines change color according to the quality of air in your home; blue for when it’s extremely clean, green for normal, yellow for when it’s turning impure, and red for high alert when the impurity hits the roof! Within the circular top of Air Wave lies an ‘Air Clean Display’ which shows the dust concentration present in the indoor space. The color of the display also shifts from blue to green to yellow and (hopefully not) red indicating the air quality.

Onda is a personalized, framed canvas with an abstract, almost concentric, display of artwork that’s used to both help purify the air in any given room and inform users of the room’s air quality. By pressing anywhere on Onda’s fabric, users activate a light beneath the canvas that either pulsates slowly and gently to indicate cleaner air quality or rapidly and irregularly to alert users of air pollution. Using daylight to initiate chemical reactions, Onda applies air purification capabilities to a textile that is both customizable and tangible. Horst primarily hoped to make the process of air purification a more thoughtful and intimate experience for those of us who live or work in areas that require clean air for productivity or for a general sense of peace.

The Naava One is a partition that also doubles up as a vertical planter, dividing spaces as well as refreshing it aesthetically. The free-standing unit comes with a self-sufficient design that’s perfect for indoors. The housing, available in white and charcoal gray, holds the vertical forest, while its base stores the water needed to feed the plants. The Naava One even comes with its own light that doesn’t just nourish the plants, it also gives your room an ambient wash of light, while illuminating the greenery. The Naava One comes as a singular unit that can be coupled with many of its kind. The unit can easily be moved around, thanks to wheels at the bottom, allowing you to add, modify, or remove partitions and change your space to suit your needs. Fitted with multiple species of plants, the Naava One can easily purify up to 60m2 of air, while the partition comes in a Duo format too, with greenery on both sides. An aesthetic and functional addition to your space, the Naava is perfect for offices as well as for homes.

The Sauberair FLAT uses sleekness to its advantage. By being perhaps the only purifier to reach a thickness of approximately 3½ inches, the Sauberair FLAT disguises itself as a piece of wall art you can hang around your home. By serving a more defined aesthetic purpose instead of just looking decor-friendly, Sauberair FLAT’s approach to tech is similar to the one found in Samsung’s TVs with their Ambient Modes, that displayed the pattern on the wall behind it, to cloak its appearance instead of looking like a massive black square when switched-off. Designed to be sleek enough to mount on the wall, the purifier’s intakes and exhausts are built around the sides, keeping the front-face intact for your art. The purifier hangs directly on your wall, although you can choose a standing version too. The art sits within a wooden frame (available in three colors – brown, white, and black) and can easily be removed to reveal the purifier beneath.

Baram which means wish and wind in Korean was designed to fulfill your wish for a fresh breeze indoors. Large air purifiers are bulky, take up space, and don’t have the added functionality of a fan. Batam provides a compact and portable alternative that is more feasible to have in your home. Mobility is a key factor because you can station it anywhere, be it in your bedroom as you sleep or on your dining table when you work from home. The handle also doubles up as a stand which helps in tilting the blower towards you which is something smaller fans don’t have. The interface is user friendly and simple to operate; it is always visible even when the appliance is tilted at various angles.

The difference between Löv and every other air purifier on the market is evident in the way it’s designed. The Löv does to air purifiers what the Nest did to thermostats. It comes with a sophisticated design that just beautifully blends into its surrounding decor, looking modern and artistic rather than antiquated and technical, and comes with a user experience that’s so simplified, anyone could use it. The Löv air purifier is a pleasure to use, but it’s also a pleasure to look at… and that’s a design direction most smart home product manufacturers try to take, be it Google, Amazon, Apple, and even companies like IKEA, that are only now entering the smart appliance market. The Löv looks quite unlike any purifier you’ve seen, with an aesthetic that embraces the minimalism of Scandinavian Design.

The Hazy Air Purifier is a window that ensures privacy while providing proper ventilation. How does it work? The device utilizes a new concept called HAZE, which uses sunlight to heat the air inside your home; this “heat haze” purifies the atmosphere and creates a foggy screen that obscures your interior living space from passing neighbors. How does the Hazy air purifier fit into your living space? After all, windows come in all sizes. The designers fixed this issue with the Hazy’s height-adjustable frame. As long as your apartment has rectangular windows, the Hazy will likely be a perfect fit. Alternatively, the product also works as a standing unit; it doesn’t have to be fixed to the wall. Unfortunately, this method means losing out on the product’s main selling point: the hazy window effect.

Dubbed the Coway Icon Air Purifier, this is a reworked and modified variant of the plasticky box-like utilitarian purifiers. It boasts a smaller and flatter form factor to sit along a wall, presenting users more flexibility in room placement. The quiet and powerful Icon integrates smart technologies to be more than a simple box doing its chores – it comes with its own smartphone app that can be used to control the functions of this air purifier remotely. The app also provides a status report of the air quality and its lifecycle, informing when cleaning or replacement is necessary.
