With a design that transcends mere functionality, Gingko’s Dragonfly Balance Light has a unique interactive quality that makes it absolutely irresistible. The dragonfly-shaped lamp rests precariously on a vertical platform, and invites you to touch it and play with it, making it both visually and physically engaging!

Created by UK-based Gingko Design, the Dragonfly Balance Light falls well within the company’s wheelhouse of unusually creative lighting products. Like all their other lights, the Dragonfly Balance Light is built from wood and runs on LEDs. The light takes the shape of a dragonfly, with the LED panels embedded in the underside of its 2 pairs of wings. The dragonfly’s body is crafted from laser-cut wood (maple or walnut), and a single power button on its back lets you switch the light on and toggle through its 4 brightness settings. Talking about the Dragonfly Balance Light, however, is incomplete without talking about its fun balancing act!

Designed to be perfectly symmetrical, the lamp’s form has a center of gravity that’s located right at the tip of the dragonfly’s head – a feature that allows it to casually balance on any surface. The Dragonfly Balance Light does come with its own wooden balancing platform (which elevates the lamp at a height to make it an effective lighting device), although it can pretty much be balanced on any narrow object, from the corner of a table/shelf to even your fingertip! Once balanced, the light can effectively be ‘fidgeted’ with by nudging it, only to have it rock to and fro before settling back down to its balanced position.

This hands-on aspect is really what makes the Dragonfly Balance Lamp such a uniquely pleasing tabletop accessory. It’s a lamp, but it’s more than just a lamp – It’s also the contemporary equivalent of a Newton’s Cradle (those tabletop toys with the swinging steel orbs). The Dragonfly Balance Lamp adds light and lightheartedness to your table, inviting your hands to constantly play with it, while still functioning traditionally as a dimmable light that illuminates your table effectively with a diffused bright glow.

The fun, interactive illusion of the lamp is further made possible by the fact that the Dragonfly Balance Light is entirely wireless. A 650mAh Li-on rechargeable battery powers the light for anywhere between 3 and 36 hours (depending on the brightness setting), and a USB-C port on the back of the dragonfly lets you plug your lamp in to replenish the battery. Each Dragonfly Balance Lamp is made from FSC certified natural maple or walnut solid wood and comes packed (along with the cylindrical stand) in a premium gift box.
