today we’re taking a look at a beautiful new book from Oakland, california-based woodworker, aleksandra zee. i met aleksandra and her then-fiancé atrom (they married a couple of months ago) when we both happened to be staying at the same hotel in todos santos. i’d known of her talents as a woodworker from afar and had always admired her work, so it was so nice to finally meet in person. she had told me she was hard at work on a book, and today i’m very happy to be sharing it with you, because not only is it beautiful, but if you’ve ever thought to yourself that you too would like to make something with your own hands, the way of the woodshop will help get you there.
in the way of the woodshop you’ll learn to master the basics of woodworking in Aleksandra’s cozy (and stunning) Bay Area studio. her book is both meditative guidebook and a journey through the joys of working, decorating, and crafting with wood with gorgeous photography and do-it-yourself projects ranging from easy to advanced — with step by step how-to’s through the process of creating nesting cutting boards, a blanket ladder, a daybed, a table and bench, and more. i don’t know about you, but i’m hankering to find myself a saw and some wood! for more inspiration from aleksandra, follow her instagram, too. and if you don’t find yourself quite as handy as you’d like to be, check out her website for available pieces she’s already created for you.
