From interiors and landscapes to lighting and product design, George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg’s repertoire has solidified the design duo amongst the industry’s most prolific names. The common denominator across their studio’s expansive portfolio is an affinity for sculptural, organic forms. A long-time collaborator of contract furniture specialist Nienkämper, the brand enlisted Yabu Pushelberg to impart their unmistakable penchant for curves to their new Rowan Collection, slated to debut at NeoCon 2022.

Comprised of lounge seating, as well as conference and occasional tables, the designers have expertly translated their hallmark contoured design language across the collection’s varied material palette. The result is an assortment that feels at once cohesive and diverse and is a welcome addition to any office space.

For ultimate flexibility, Nienkämper’s Rowan seating can be arranged in a seemingly infinite number of configurations that make use of straight, concave and convex elements. The collection’s gentle curves are accentuated by piping and stitching details within the upholstery, balancing softness with structure.

Despite its small footprint, the Rowan lounge chair’s surprisingly spacious seat doesn’t compromise on comfort, bringing a residential feel to the contract furnishings. The lounge chair is available with a fixed or 360-degree swivel base, which not only encourages conversation amongst colleagues but also showcases the chair’s sculptural silhouette — which is striking from every angle.

To complement the seating collection, Nienkämper’s Rowan occasional tables draw inspiration from the organic forms of the natural world, further emphasized by their minimal wood finish. The rectangular coffee table is softened by a curved pedestal base. Meanwhile, the square coffee table and side tables — which are available in two heights — offer a simple yet eye-catching accent, their square forms rounded with bullnose-corner details and topped with glass, stone, leather or wood.

The collection’s sculptural stature is as well suited to the office’s casual lounge space as it is to the boardroom. With the Rowan conference table, Yabu Pushelberg’s fondness for curves is evident down to the details: its innovative Cascade Edge features two half-bullnose profiles that run opposite to each other, upwards along the length of the table and downwards on each end.

Prioritizing form and function in equal measure, the table’s dual pedestal base easily opens up without the need for tools for streamlined cable management that helps workspaces stay organized. Like all Nienkämper conference tables, the design also carefully integrates flexible power and data and video connectivity, keeping everything needed for efficient meetings within arm’s reach.

An industry leader since 1968, it’s no surprise that Nienkämper has its finger on the pulse of what is needed in today’s work environments. Forgoing the sterility and pragmatism of traditional office furnishings, the brand’s latest release prioritizes both performance and style, adding warmth and refinement to contemporary workspaces.
