Designwell with Edwards White Architects collaborated to design the Riverbank Chambers offices located in Hamilton, New Zealand.

We were approached to collaborate on the interior of a barristers chambers situated in a new additional floor, on-top of a 1960’s Ministry of Works building in the Hamilton CBD. The collective of barristers and building owner desired a modern co-working space that celebrated and challenged the notion of a traditional barrister’s chambers.

The guiding design approach was to use traditional, quality materials associated with legal chambers but execute them with a slightly modern twist through unconventional design applications. The result is a timeless and elegant work environment that speaks to the chambers growing reputation and excellence.

The informal entry has no reception desk but features a custom high table that welcomes its visitors to self check-in. Waiting and meeting spaces share extensive views down the main street, while large sliding doors and drapes add layers of privacy when required. Custom tables, shelving and wall lights throughout share a common, traditional materiality but have each been executed to challenge convention.

This project was completed in collaboration with our friends at Edwards White Architects. Daniel Smith from EWA was responsible for the Architecture and we collaborated closely on the interior scheme.
