RMGB weaves contemporary and classic design within this elegant renovation of a 19th-century Parisian apartment, Rue des Réservoirs. The studio founders, Guillaume Gibert and Baptiste Rischmann, have re-enchanted the space by injecting fantasy and modernity into its restored classical base, with plenty of luxe licks that give this interior a memorable touch.

The project began when their client inherited his childhood family home, prompting the opportunity to bring life back into its old walls. RMGB aimed to revive their client’s childhood memories while creating a space for his young family to grow within. The home already contained all of the elegance associated with its era, featuring beautiful classical mouldings and deliciously stained Hungarian herringbone parquetry. RMGB have reignited the glamour of the original interior with all heritage elements restored and remodelled to their former glory. The sophisticated voice of the past is laced throughout the entire apartment, bringing it into the framework of the 21st century.

There is a decadence that weaves itself throughout each room, a level of refined grandeur that is achieved despite the apartment’s humble size. Coupled with a series of bespoke elements designed in collaboration with local craftsmen, the curation of furniture, lighting and object selections reads like a list of who’s who in the design zoo.

In the living room, custom-designed carpet brings a bold graphic focus, perfectly complemented by ‘Arrow’ brass chandelier from Apparatus that hangs from the ceiling. In contrast, organic lines of Christophe Delcourt peach sofa and Nacho Carbonell’s floor lamp from Carpenter Workshop Gallery add a playful touch. On the wall hangs a large painting by Israeli-Danish artist Tal R sourced from VNH Gallery. Vintage ‘6911’ armchairs by Horst Brüning were reupholstered in white wool fabric from Dedar.

In the bedroom, custom headboard was inspired by Jean Royère day bed, it’s colour referencing Françoise Pétrovitch’s painting, ‘Nocturne’, from Galerie Semiose. Brass sconces by Atelier de Troupe hang above the sculptural side tables by Vincenzo De Cotiis.

Reminiscent of Italian palaces, the bathroom features a double vanity formed in Grigio Carnico marble, with RMGB-designed chrome framed arched mirrors.

The kitchen continues to speak to RMGB’s fine taste in materials. The made-to-measure brushed stainless steel back cabinet is fitted with solid brass handles by Garnier & Linker, with an arresting island bench clad in Calacatta Viola marble. The adjacent dining room features a verdant tapestry by Roger Mühl via Ateliers Pinton. The chairs by Willy Rizzo upholstered in green water velvet from Sahco combine with the sophisticated enamelled lava stone table on a lacquered steel base, designed by RMGB. The suspended light by Carlo Nason and ‘Foglio’ wall lamp in folded metal by Tobia & Afra Scarpa add a touch of jewellery.

Rue des Réservoirs by RMGB fuses memories and formal architectural styles with playful and elegant design. The duo has created a warm and layered family home that celebrates all of the beauty of its past while embracing a contemporary language.
