Supple Studio is behind a new visual identity for The Egg Assembly, an online theatre training platform from The Egg Theatre in Bath.

“The Egg offers free training sessions to local children from 5-18 years old, pre-Covid these sessions were face to face activities, but the current situation has meant they’ve had to adapt,” says Jamie Ellul, creative director at Supple. “So we were briefed to create a look and feel for their new offer The Egg Assembly – aimed at encouraging young artists and performers to engage with the online learning platform.”

For the research phase, the Bath firm worked with a group of young creatives already enjoying some Egg Theatre training, to help develop a look and feel that appealed to the young audience. After the steering group fed back a series of work-in-progress concepts, Supple developed the final route.

The result is a tangram-like egg logo which breaks apart and reassembles to create patterns and illustrations. Designer Sheri Dykes explains “The tangram egg is broken in a way that subtly creates a lowercase e and gives the visual identity a range of shapes to use playfully both in animated and static applications.”

The identity has since been rolled out across launch animations, socials and a digital learning platform with logged-in areas for young people to share and collaborate. The website acts as both a shop window for recruitment and a platform for online training, through video uploads and links to live Zoom sessions.
