Target REDcard 5% Off, off + Coupon For New Approvals

$40 off $40 coupon is back. We’ve become regular users of the Target app and their Drive-Up option. No markups, well-organized, dedicated parking area, and minimal waiting. I expect to keep using this curbside pickup service even beyond the pandemic. If only Costco had a similar service!

The Target REDcard offers 5% off all Target purchases both online and in-store (Target gift cards excluded, in-store Starbucks included) and free 2-day shipping on qualifying items. No annual fee. From May 1st through May 28th, newly approved REDcard applicants can receive a $40 off $40+ coupon (valid in-store or online) along with their new card in the mail. There are a bunch of restrictions (see below), but I can easily spend $40 on snacks and other household goods.

Debit card version. A lesser-known fact is that you can get it as a debit card such that it withdraws money directly from your linked bank account, and applying for it won’t harm your credit score (nor hinder your ability to apply to other, more lucrative credit cards). Instead of a credit check at one of the 3 major bureaus, a reader reports that Target uses SageStream (formerly ID Analytics) for debit cards, another consumer reporting agency.

If you don’t want to use a REDCard, Target Circle offers 1% cash back on top of your usual credit card rewards.

You can earn 1% to redeem at Target later when you use non-RedCard payment types on eligible purchases. (To earn 1%, a RedCard can’t be used for any portion of the purchase.) Just scan Wallet in the Target app or enter your mobile number in store, or make a purchase online. Restrictions apply.

Here’s the full list of restrictions on that $40 off $40 coupon.
