christmas break is nearly upon us and if one could dream up the ideal destination to spend the holidays, well that’s easy for me — the very charming and petit hotel la ponche in the south of france would do quite nicely, thank you (santa, are you listening?). hotel la ponche is the smallest and most secret of the 5-star seaside hotels in Saint-Tropez, on the legendary Ponche beach on the french riviera and though it just reopened in june after some beautiful renovations, this quaint boutique hotel was actually built in 1938 and has a history of hosting a legion of interesting guests like artist Picasso, famous writers and plenty of filmmakers — in fact, each of its 21 rooms and suites is named after well-known guests (like the brigitte bardot who filmed And God Created Woman on the beach out front) and there’s even a chic private apartment if you and your entourage require a bit more spacious accommodations. we’re going to get our best french girl mix & match ensemble packed so we’re ready for anything. for evening soirees, a slinky black silk skirt, but paired with a classic white button-down shirt tied at the waist and the predictable but oh so chic navy blazer, and a pair of sexy sandals. for daytime, mix these up with some well-cut cotton trousers, a very french striped boatneck tee, and some sporty tennies. on top of all that will add in a splash of sunny saint-tropez yellow accessories. while in France, why not brush up on Ernest Hemingway’s A Moveable Feast? Written during the last years of his life these memories as an unknown writer living in Paris in the twenties are deeply personal and full of wit. Looking back at the other writers who shared Paris with him – James Joyce, Wyndham Lewis, Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald — he recalls the time when, poor, happy, and writing in cafes, he discovered his life’s vocation. lucky us!
