it’s getting awfully chilly out there these days (even in california) but there’s a cozy destination i think suits the mood perfectly. gracing beautiful hudson, new york, it’s the hip-countryside-goers dream come true. wm. farmer & sons is not only a spot to grab a delicious bite to eat but also a mercantile, friendly cocktail bar & restaurant — and an intimate boardinghouse-style hotel should not feel like leaving the comfort of this very charming spot. the boutique-style space designed by shappacher white architecture is full of masculine touches like deep jewel-toned paint, open brick, and raw wood floors. that, however, does not mean you can’t bring the eclectic femme to this dining experience with a chic pleated mini skirt, warmed up with a soft mock neck sweater, some patterned black tights, and some fun and funky tall boots. don’t forget to bring a warm coat and an overnight backpack packed with your most feminine jammies and a good book — one of my latest favorites that’s perfect for this rustic spot is greenwood by michael christie — i couldn’t put it down. a generational family saga that charts the family’s rise and fall in the lumber industry, its secrets, and inherited hidden crimes, it’s an unusual but gripping tale traveling back and forth through time.
