As Plus Studio‘s Australian portfolio reaches approximately $18.8 billion, the practice has announced four internal promotions and one strategic appointment across its Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney, Perth and Melbourne studios. The appointments bring the leadership totals to 21 Directors and Principals and 36 Senior Associates and Associates across its 11 studios throughout Australasia.

In Queensland, Gold Coast-born and -bred Matt Harrison has been promoted to Senior Associate for the technical rigour he brings to high-rise residential developments, while Alex Menchaca-Velasco has been appointed to Associate.

Plus Studio Director Michael McShanag comments: “These appointments recognise the people who have grown with the studio and helped shape our Queensland presence. They ensure that we have the leadership and expertise required for the next phase of work in the region.”

Down in New South Wales, Plus Studio’s pipeline of work spans a range of typologies in both regional and urban locations, with an increased focus on partnerships that will deliver much needed social housing outcomes for at-risk communities.

After ten years with the practice, Mahtab Bahrami has been promoted to Senior Associate. She is central to the studio’s most complex projects, coordinating approvals, consultants and delivery pathways while ensuring the original design vision is carried through to construction.

In Western Australia, Plus Studio’s work in Perth has expanded from a primarily residential focus to a large portfolio spanning social and affordable housing, purpose-built student accommodation, transport, commercial and hotel developments. Here, Luis Schilling has joined the team as Head of Design WA – a newly created role that embeds consistent design review and early-stage thinking across the studio.

Perth Studio Director Patric Przeradzki comments: “Luis brings a global perspective and a collaborative leadership style that aligns strongly with our studio culture. His role strengthens how we test and develop ideas, helping teams deliver thoughtful, well-resolved design across an increasingly diverse portfolio.”

As for Melbourne, planned projects span residential, mixed-use and city-shaping repositioning. After eight years with the practice there, Mau Cheng has been promoted to Associate. A design lead on 623 Collins (State Bank House) and Melior, he is known for aligning early design thinking with buildable outcomes.
