Set high on the 7th floor of a luxurious building in Vadodara, the office of Ark Golden India Pvt. Ltd. unfolds as a bold yet understated workspace by Studio Karigari. Designed for a company at the forefront of chemical innovation, the interiors balance sophistication with contemporary vigor.
Spanning 3300 sq. ft, principal designer Prashant Gurjar ditches dull neutrals for a burst of chromatic energy. Bold cyan, red, graphite and beige accents are interspersed through the design, striking a balance between vibrancy and calm. The office adopts a studio-like rhythm, reflecting the company’s dynamic ethos.
Designed within the shell of the built floor, the space dons a structured yet fluidic persona, with a straightforward open plan spatial arrangement — a central entrance with private cabins over on one side and meeting spaces over on the other. Upon entry, a slanted stone brick–clad wall envelops the service areas, guiding the transition toward the reception-cum-lounge space. The furniture in the lounge area features clean lines softened by plush upholstery. The reception along with a set of ten workstations tucked away behind the sinuous feature wall anchors the central bay, making it a charged space within the layout. The cyan flowing from the rear structural building columns becomes the ground for central reception and workspace, a bold micro concrete finished feature that ties the space together, weaving disparate elements into a harmonious whole. A quirky installation spotted by the designer from his visit to a local sculptor— a dancing kathakali figurine resting on a pedestal, adds a whimsical touch to the space.
Commanding the layout’s nucleus while levitating above the workstation island is a bespoke crocodilian-inspired pendant light. Conceived from its closed mouth silhouette, it washes the space in a soft, diaphanous glow. Echoing the reptilian nature, the fixture recreates its hardened top shell and softer underbelly through material contrast—a gauzy, stretched fabric encased within a red-painted hard HDF wood shell, crowned with an intricate Indo-wood carving on its head, that invites one to pause and converse.
As the office unfolds, it reveals a series of interconnected zones, each imbued with purpose and coherence. Natural materials like lime paint-finished walls, wood, and stone adds to the earthy feel, while the bold pop of color provides a vivid backdrop for bold art illustrations. To the left, private cabins provide focused workspace defined by simplicity. A suave neutral identity, minimal bold chromatic gestures strategically placed on furniture and doors, sleek perforated curved MS plate detailing on desks and task lighting create spaces that foster focus while maintaining visual continuity with the rest of the office. Subtle design elements, like the strategic use of red accents and airy MS perforated sheet elevate the aesthetic while making a striking impact. At the far-right end, the glass-enclosed acoustically designed meeting room, bathed in dropped stretched ceiling light, transforms effortlessly from an intimate discussion area to a formal boardroom with neutral contemporary material palette. Rock-wool filled acoustic partition wall cladded with fabric paneling on boardroom end and dotted ply and bold line illustration on workstation end, fosters a more focused and productive environment.
The design embraces a raw, bold aesthetic—layering stone brick, lime paint, and wooden finishes, while juxtaposing the panache of bold colors with a nuanced neutral palette. In this Vadodara office, traditional design norms dissolve, paving way to this immersive milieu that feels alive. Here, openness meets intimacy, color meets calm, and flow meets restraint.
