The Atlas Copco Group, UK project was about transforming a dilapidated 55,000 sq ft space into a place that would put their people first, humanising the work experience through a phenomenal CAT A & B BREEAM accredited fit-out.

When our discussions first started with Atlas Copco Group, they were looking to move into Technology House as a landlord owned space however, following further design developments, the group decided to explore the option of acquiring the building themselves. This decision opened a whole new window of opportunity in terms of what Atlas were able to do with this space. Rather than having to work their needs around the confines of the space as it was, they were able to take a holistic view of their needs vs what the possibilities were to completely reimagine the building.

This space needed to cater for five different business divisions as well as having production, warehouse and workshop facilities.

One of the big challenges with their last spaces was that the different business divisions were very separate and they didn’t have the right type of collaborative areas to draw them together cohesively. This challenge has been addressed in the new space by creating the Plaza canteen space and the Home Hub where people from all areas of the building can come together to have coffee or lunch in a relaxed environment. The gym is also another feature which is provided for all employees and a chance for them to socialise after or before their working hours.

In the Technology House, innovation took centre stage as we harmonised sustainability, efficiency, and aesthetic appeal. Embracing a circular economy approach, we meticulously reclaimed and repurposed materials like the staircase and raised access floor, not merely reducing waste but also infusing the space with a rich narrative of reuse and resourcefulness. Transforming courtyard B into an accessible terrace not only enhanced the area’s functionality but also fostered a deeper connection with the natural environment, promoting well-being and productivity among occupants.

Functionality: location, 5 or 6 business units houses, basically unites the together under the atlas Copco group brand, front of house facilities, support staff areas, arrival of the reception, plaza amenities for both clients and employees, whole floor functions in a streamline way, connects with the outside courtyard for the natural light, utilise the gym and wellbeing facilities, direct access to the outside space, high end shower facilities, client meet and greet dedicated client meeting suites, all with AV and video conferencing, new lift in the ante space, functionally takes you up, dedicated client super toilets, all have access to a variety of work settings, rooms, booths, meeting rooms, open collaboration project areas, untied in the central core in the h9ome hub allows people to work in a more relaxed manner with coffee and refreshments and direct access to the new courtyard filter, natural light.

Our project’s functionality is a testament to thoughtful design aimed at harmonised the needs of employees and clients while embodying the cohesive identity of the Atlas Copco Group. Positioned strategically, it serves as a centralised hub accommodating five to six business units, seamlessly integrating them under the overarching Atlas Copco brand. The front-of-house facilities, including reception and support staff areas, ensure a smooth arrival experience, setting the tone for professional interactions. Dedicated client meeting suites equipped with advanced AV and video conferencing technology facilitate seamless communication and collaboration.

Efficiency is key to the layout, with a streamlined floor plan that connects various functions fluidly. Abundant natural lights floods the space, enhancing productivity and fostering a sense of well-being, while the courtyard integration further enhances this connection to the outdoors. Employees benefit from direct access to amenities such as a gym, wellness facilities, and high-end shower facilities, promoting health and convenience.

At the heart of the layout lies the central core, or “home hub,” where employees can work in a relaxed atmosphere, enjoying coffee and refreshments while staying connected to the surrounding environment. This hub serves as a focal point, fostering collaboration and creativity while maintaining a strong connection to the new courtyard and its filtering natural light. The projects functionality is meticulously crafted to enhance productivity and promote well-being, reflecting the values and ethos of the Atlas Copco Group.

Design: wellbeing room, branding overarching values, entwined through the scheme without shouting corporate colours, the overall aesthetic of the scandi feel and the original company from a Scandinavian pov with an industrial fe3el, felt like it was branding the culture of the busines without shouting the corporate colours

The design of our project embodies a harmonious blend of functionality, aesthetics, and brand identity, with a string emphasis on promoting employee well-being and reflecting the core values of the Atlas Copco Group. At the heart of this design philosophy is the integration of a dedicated perfectly with the company’s commitment to fostering a healthy and supportive work environment.

Throughout the space, the branding and values of the Atlas Copco Group are subtly interwoven, eschewing overt corporate colours in favour of a more nuanced approach. Instead, the design captures the essence of the company’s identity through carefully curated elements and details. Drawing inspiration from Scandinavian design principles, the overall aesthetic exudes a sense of simplicity, warmth, and functionality. The incorporation of an industrial feel, reminiscent of the company’s Scandinavian roots, adds depth and character to the space, creating a unique atmosphere that resonates with both employees and visitors.

By infusing the design with a Scandinavian perspective, the project not only pays homage to the company’s heritage but also effectively communicates its cultural values without resorting to overt branding. This approach ensures that the space feels authentic and inviting, embodying the essence of the Atlas Copco Group’s identity while maintaining a timeless and sophisticated appeal. In summary, the design of our project serves as a testament to the seamless integration of branding, aesthetics, and functionality, creating a space that is both inspiring and true to the ethos of the company.
