Prompted by her recent move to the Nelson Bay area, the artist Patricia Braune immersed herself in the local landscape, keen to interrogate its unique character with respect, curiosity and patience.

Captivated by the mesmerising cadence of foliage, and the alluring details of vibrant blooms she witnessed, Patricia captured her impressions, creating an intricate and deeply personal design catalogue of the Bay’s natural beauty.

“Looking up at the towering Gymea Lilies that punctuate morning walks, to the dappled shade offered by glossy Umbrella Tree leaves, each design grew from observation,” she recalls. “The vegetation and textures that epitomise coastal living, invoke a tactile connection to the rhythms of the Bay.”

Born out of a profound appreciation for the landscape’s botanical beauty, Patricia’s elaborate sketches blossomed into the evocative Bay Collection with the help of Materialised, a family-run textile and wall coverings innovator based in Sydney. Together, they translated the designs into mediums suitable for commercial interiors.

“From Patricia‘s original designs, we carefully selected ones for their ability to work across furnishing textiles, wall covering, window film and roller blinds,” says Rebecca Rego, Materialised’s textile designer who worked closely with the artist to bring the Bay Lines Collection to life.

A result of this harmonious collaboration is a refined suite of seven exquisite print patterns that honour the soothing allure of the East Coast’s sun-drenched landscape. From the bold, expressive florals on display in “Looking Up”, “Passion Flora” and “Parasol Leaves” to the subtle intricacies and rudimentary shapes of “Woven Canopy” and the maritime-inspired “Tangled,” each design renders a unique perspective on the essence of the Australian outdoors. Available in three distinct palettes – Terra Firma, Verdant Shores, and In Shade – the collection embraces wonderfully unconventional colour combinations that further accentuate the creative expression of each pattern. “This mix of large and small-scale prints offers versatility and sophistication,” Rebecca notes. “They effortlessly elevate the ambiance of any space.”

And while the stunning patterns and colour palettes undoubtedly take centre stage, the Bay Lines Collection transcends the notion of mere decoration. The designs are articulated through a range of premium, high-performance fabrics and furnishings, including acoustic solutions and light-filtering window films, making them suitable for a wide array of commercial interiors, including healthcare, hospitality, government and education.

With its evocative designs, rich materiality, and unwavering commitment to quality, the Bay Lines Collection by Patricia Braune and Materialised is poised to make a lasting mark on the contract furnishings market. Intertwining the quintessential tapestry of Australian textures, forms, and hues with Materialised’s printable performance substrates, the collection bridges the gap between commercial spaces and Nelson Bay’s serene landscape. Establishing this palpable link was precisely what Patricia set out to achieve in the first place. “I aspired to create a collection to capture and share a little of this joy with others,” she smiles. Looking at the striking blooms, and soothing rhythm of the foliage, there is no doubt that the Bay Lines Collection is bound to bring a sense of delight to any interior.
