Located on the Eyre Peninsula on the coast of South Australia, the stunning circular jetty is an unmissable feature alongside Whyalla’s foreshore. With the previous 122m-long jetty destroyed by fire, the Council sought to not only replace the old jetty, but to build a new structure to act as the centrepiece for the revitalisation of Whyalla. After extensive consultation, the unique design was picked from five options, with the distinctive loop shape proving overwhelmingly popular with the community.
Extended to 315m walking distance, the new Whyalla Jetty was rebuilt by Maritime Constructions with Magryn Engineering Consultants serving as the design engineers for the project. As a fishing and walking jetty, adequate lighting was needed to keep the public safe at night. The Council also wanted to upgrade from the old-school overhead lighting of the old jetty with an advanced lighting design to help show off the jetty’s new, ultra-modern design.
A bespoke lighting solution was needed, which is where , leading Australian manufacturer of linear lighting systems, entered the picture. The company’s system was installed in the balustrade that runs the entire circumference and length of the jetty, recessed into the handrail at 500mm intervals to provide uniformity and safety at night.

Integrating lights in the handrails eliminated the need for unsightly overhead lighting poles and wires, while still providing practical and safe illumination for end users.
Opened to the general public in September 2020, Whyalla Jetty is a development that has replaced a once-tired structure with a genuine tourist drawcard. KLIK System’s innovative lighting solutions added the final touch to this iconic design, creating a 24/7 attraction with a wonderful ambiance at night.
