i’ve always had a crush on these kinds of floating, wall-mounted shelves with glass doors, especially if it’s been DIY’d from a truly repurposed vintage piece — like a longtime favorite of mine just below — that ornate kitchen cabinet is just over the top cool. i love glass cabinets in general but when you find a vintage china or display cabinet of some kind and separate it from its base, perhaps give it a coat of paint (especially the inside shelves and back panel) and then hang it on the wall as a floating display unit, i just find it smashing. i look for these from time to time on chairish, or etsy and when i’ve been wandering the flea markets or shopping in france for super marché and there are new ones to be had, as well. one day i’ll find the perfect cabinet to bring home and make my own. they’ve long been quite popular in Scandinavia, but i’ve been seeing the trend more and more all over — and i love the idea of repurposing an old cabinet and giving it new life — living on our walls. here are some looks i love.
