ah, finally daylight savings time — now can we just leave it alone? i have to admit, it’s been awfully hard to wake up and have instead been sleeping in later than usual which doesn’t feel very productive, but my body knows what it wants and it wants to keep sleeping! i love the additional hours of light at the end of the day though, when we can all start spending more time outside, rather than rushing home to get cozy and warm inside when it’s already dark at only 5’oclock. i always feel like the extra sunlight at the end of the day is much healthier for us — an evening walk, or bike ride, and then a lovely dinner al fresco. so it’s time to spruce up the garden and i’m really drawn to this modern Mediterranean trend, with pea gravel and cement pavers, weathered old terracotta pots, and outdoor furniture with a mid-century modern twist. it’s simple, yet elegant and very inviting. add some greenery like succulents, cacti, agave, and olive trees and you almost feel like you’re spending time somewhere else entirely, somewhere far away, rather than your very own backyard. and it’s a relatively easy look to achieve and less is more — with minimal vintage wrought-iron outdoor furniture that only gets better with age and patina, some old oil bottles,  perhaps a few cactus paddles (love that idea!). so here’s to the soon-to-be springtime and more time spent outdoors!
