In 1956, Gio Ponti, chief editor of the magazine Domus, announced a design competition for a coffee machine. Winner was the design by Munari and Mari, They nicknamed the espresso machine the “Diamond” for the multi-faceted shape which could be composed to obtain different combinations of colors and sizes.
