Chase and Air Canada have launched the new for US customers. Here are the highlights on the sign-up bonus and Air Canada perks:
- 2 Welcome Flight Rewards (worth up to 100,000 total points) after you spend $4,000 in the first 3 months from account opening.
- Free first checked bags on Air Canada flights: one free checked bag for the primary cardmember and up to eight other travelers on the same itinerary.
- Automatically receive Aeroplan 25K Elite Status for the remainder of the first calendar year, plus the following calendar year, allowing primary cardmembers to enjoy benefits such as priority check-in, early boarding, upgrades and more on Air Canada flights.
- $100 credit toward Global Entry, TSA Precheck or NEXUS every four years (as reimbursement for the application fee charged to your card)
- No foreign transaction fees.
- $95 annual fee.
Here is the rewards structure on credit card spending:
- 3X points on dining, takeout, and eligible delivery services
- 3X points at grocery stores
- 3X points on direct purchases at Air Canada
- 1 point for each dollar spent on all other purchases
- An additional 500 bonus points for every $2,000 spent in a calendar month (up to a maximum of 1,500 points per calendar month)
Chase will soon be allowing a limited option to redeem Aeroplan points at a rate of 1.25 cents per point:

Welcome Flight Reward Certificate details. In a funky move, this card is not offering bonus miles or points, but two separate “certificates” worth up to 50,000 points each. That means you could redeem them exactly for two reward flights that would have otherwise required 50,000 Aeroplan points. Or, if the flight require more than 50,000 points, you would simply have cover the difference. (Chase Ultimate Rewards points now transfer to Aeroplan on a 1:1 rate.) However, if those flights only required 35,000 points each, you can book them but you wouldn’t receive any credit for the difference. These certificates are thus less flexible than actually having 100,000 Aeroplan points. The certificates do not expire as long as you keep your Chase Aeroplan World Elite Mastercard open.
Here is a link to the (PDF). The points required are based on distance. However, 50,000 points is always enough for a flight to/from anywhere within North America (including Hawaii) on Air Canada. Instead of two roundtrip economy flights, you could also try to book two one-way international/business class flights.
One additional helpful fact is that “every Air Canada seat available to buy for cash is also available for points, no restrictions.” As long as you are trying to book a flight on Air Canada, Air Canada Express, or Air Canada Rouge, it is very likely that you can still get hundreds of dollar of value for each of these Welcome Flight Reward Certificates.
Bottom line. The new offers a solid sign-up bonus and perks (including free first checked bag) that expect to fly Air Canada. New cardholders can receive 2 Welcome Flight Rewards (worth up to 100,000 total points) after spending $4,000 in the first 3 months from account opening.
