In honour of 2018 London Design Festival which officially kicked off over the weekend, today we take a little look-see at a rather epic home of London Design Festival Director himself, Ben Evans, and Stirling Prize-winning architect Amanda Levete. Talk about a power couple, huh? I mean, seriously – what could one possibly expect from their home? Fireworks? Sure, we can probably arrange that.

Located in London‘s Islington, this traditional brick façade terrace house reveals nothing of the spectacular spaces that lie within. One enters via an unassuming regular looking door, behind which lies a modern extension built over the site of a former dress factory.

Now a world-renowned architect, Amada Levete began her career working with Richard Rogers, before heading Future Systems with her former husband, the late Jan Kaplický (side note – I remember doing an assignment on their work at uni – pretty sure I got a high distinction for it too. Such a show off! Anyway, I digress). Amanda founded her own architecture practice in 2009, AL_A, which has worked on a myriad of acclaimed projects all around the world, including the 2015 MPavilion in Melbourne.

The design prioritises curves and rounded corners in both the structure and the furniture choices within the interior. Overall there is very little colour or any other visual distractions to be found – the space is all about extraordinary forms and generous ceiling heights highlighted with an abundance of natural light delivered through clerestory windows and skylights.

At the end of the day – would I want to live here? Probably not, but there’s no denying the fact this is one seriously epic home. For real.

In addition to these spectacular images by Paul Raeside on Architectural Digest, there is a fantastic little video about this house you can watch over on Nowness, filmed by Emile Rafael. Check it out here.
