You’ll feel like you’re on a film set at this special exhibition, packed with real-world movie sets, props, costumes, and more.
Whether you like him or loathe him, you have to admit that film director has a unique point of view. Now the creative force behind The Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom, Fantastic Mr Fox and The Royal Tenenbaums has a new movie out, and it’s sure to cause quite a stir.
Asteroid City takes place in in the mid-1950s, in an eponymous American desert town famous for its meteor crater and celestial observatory. The plot follows a grieving father who travels with his tech-obsessed family to the small town to compete in a junior stargazing event, only to have his life disrupted forever as world-shaking events take over.
The cast list is as stellar as the subject matter, and includes (deep breath) Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan and Jeff Goldblum. Authentic sets
Of course, if you’re a Wes Anderson fan, you’ll know that it’s the unique look of his films that are as important as the actors and story. In which case, great news: you now you have a chance to experience the outlandish Americana of Asteroid City in the most immersive way possible.
Everything you see in the movie, which was filmed in Spain, was built in real-life, to give the actors the feel of living in a real town. And now an exhibition of these original sets, along with props, miniatures, costumes and artwork, has opened in central London.
The exhibition is spread across three spaces, and and signature audio and video clips from the movie are integrated into the overall experience. There’s even an opportunity to dine out at the film’s iconic 1950’s diner, the Luncheonette.
Limited edition merchandise will also be on sale at the venue, including: T-shirts, totes, screenplay, companion book, pin badges, and exclusive vinyl with tracks including Dear Alien (Who Art in Heaven) and You Can’t Wake Up If You Don’t Fall Asleep.
The exhibition runs until 8th July, at 180 Studios, 180 The Strand, London WC2R 1EA. Opening hours are 12noon-7pm Tuesday to Sundays. The last entry is at 7pm. Tickets and information are available via .
