Cachet Group designed and constructed a refined legal workplace for Fifth Floor Chambers in Brisbane, balancing the privacy and functionality required for legal practice with the warmth and comfort of a residential interior.
Established by lawyers transitioning from a larger practice, Fifth Floor Chambers needed a workplace that would define its new identity while supporting the demands of focused, high-pressure work. Located on George Street, the project involved a complete demolition and fitout of the existing tenancy.
Equality was a key influence on the planning. Rather than reinforcing traditional workplace hierarchy, most private offices were designed to be consistent in size and offering. Natural light was maximised throughout the floorplate, creating a brighter and more supportive environment for a team accustomed to long and demanding working hours.
The arrival experience establishes the character of the workplace. A sculptural natural stone element anchors the reception, complemented by warm timber-look panelling, tactile finishes, restrained brass detailing and layered lighting. The result is polished and professional without feeling overly corporate.
Throughout the office, the design carefully balances openness and confidentiality. Sheer curtains and fluted privacy film allow light to travel through the tenancy while providing discretion between client-facing areas, offices and shared spaces. Cork flooring introduces warmth and acoustic softness underfoot, while full-height panelling and doors establish a strong architectural rhythm.
Detailed joinery played an important role in elevating the compact workplace. Bronze recessed shadow lines, fine trims and carefully resolved junctions create a sense of precision and permanence. When existing mechanical services prevented the original reception lighting detail from being constructed, the design and delivery teams adapted the feature on site, preserving its intended atmosphere and visual impact.
The completed workplace offers Fifth Floor Chambers a calm, confident and highly functional environment. Residential warmth, generous planning and precise detailing create a distinctive alternative to the traditional legal office, supporting both concentrated work and a considered client experience.
