There was a time not too long ago, when we’d marvel at designers superimposing one product’s design language onto another category entirely. Imagine if , or if . Although pure visual exercises, they were a fun exercise that allowed us to imagine objects and scenarios that we’d probably never encounter… quite like this Nintendo-inspired motorcycle.
Nintendo isn’t in the vehicle business (unless you count Mario Kart as a vehicle business), but what if it was? How would the Switch’s design aesthetic imprint onto an e-bike? That’s what Jae Hyuk Shin found himself asking as he created the Nintendo Motorcycle – a purely conceptual e-bike with the classic dual-tone colorway and a form that feels as friendly and appealing as Nintendo’s own handheld consoles.

The Nintendo Motorcycle comes with an electric powertrain sitting under the hood of what is a VERY sleek e-bike. No sinewy forms, no motorcycle-shaped chassis – the Nintendo Motorcycle has a distinctly blockish design that deviates from convention for two reasons – first, being the electric build on the inside, and secondly, the inspiration from Nintendo’s own rectangular devices.
The e-bike is primarily a rectangular mass with two wheels protruding out the sides – all simple geometric forms that seem very familiar to any Nintendo Switch user. The seat sits flat and flush against the top (sort of like a shoulder button), while the handlebars come with an empty slot where you’d dock your Nintendo Switch, sort of turning the Switch’s screen into the motorcycle dashboard.
A large USB-C port below the dashboard is where you’d charge your motorcycle, and the front and rear lights are both glowing Nintendo logos. Not great for visibility, but then again, Nintendo isn’t seriously building a motorcycle. All this is just for feels.
That’s also where the different color combinations come in. Sure, you can go for the blue-red Switch color combo (I only recently realized this color combo was to honor Super Mario), but you can just as easily go for other colors based on your other favorite characters – yellow purple for Wario, shades of green for Link from Zelda, or red and white to honor the Pokeball if you’re a Pokemon fan. What other colors can you think of that would really stand out??
