At Sydney’s new Wunderlich Lane precinct, the INDE.Awards Gala 2025 was a true celebration of the best design across our Asia-Pacific region. Hundreds of people from across the design community – including attendees from Thailand, Singapore and elsewhere – came together as the winners were announced in categories ranging from The Object and The Graduate to The Work Space and The Living Space.

Headlining the occasion was The Best of the Best award, which went to Enter Projects Asia in collaboration with SOM for Terminal 2 Kempegowda International Airport Interiors in India. Bangkok-based Patrick Keane was there in person to collect the award, a worthy winner that captures the uniqueness of architecture in the wider region and was met with an extremely warm reception in the room. Keane emphasised the sustainability principles behind the design, which uses a remarkable nine kilometres of rattan.

Indeed, the atmosphere was warm and celebratory throughout the evening. The venue’s wide open spaces combined with low ceilings allowed for a certain intimacy despite the large number of attendees. The INDEs Gala once again showed how awards nights can be vibrant, fun occasions – so much more than a stuffy set of announcements and polite rounds of applause.

Another highlight of the evening came as Andrew Tu’inukuafe and Barrington Gohns – both with Warren and Mahoney – collected their Luminary trophy. Recognised along with fellow Luminaries John Wardle, Ong Tze Boon and Joyce Wang, Tu’inukuafe gave perhaps the most memorable speech of the whole evening as he emphasised the importance of place and First Nations design.

House on a Hill by Leeton Pointon Architects and Allison Pye Interiors picked up two awards, for The Interior Space and The Living Space, while BVN was also recognised twice for its Sirius redevelopment. Another standout project winner was The Standard, Singapore by Ministry of Design, with Colin Seah – former Luminary – in attendance to collect the award and give a short, but heartfelt speech.

As always, other memorable moments came with some of the INDE.Awards’ distinctive categories with graduates and photographers recognised. Barton Taylor and Cieran Murphy were winners in photography categories, with Martina Gemmola picking up an honourable mention in both categories.

Program Director Jan Henderson orchestrated proceedings with her usual grace, having coordinated the full awards program including its extensive international jury. Either side of the formal ceremony led by Jan, the crowd mingled in Saltbox’s antechamber space as food and drinks flowed, with publisher Raj Nandan also giving a speech to kick off the awards.
