Westwood Gallery NYC presents “Inger Johanne Grytting: Life Lines,” a solo show of paintings and drawings.

Represented exclusively by Westwood Gallery in New York City, Inger Johanne Grytting’s exhibition will be on view at the gallery from November 19, 2022 – January 14, 2023.

Norwegian-born artist Inger Johanne Grytting has resided on the Bowery in New York since 1972 and started her art career back home by studying oil painting. After moving to NY, she studied sculpture under modernist Chaim Gross (1904-1991) and then was mentored by Norwegian artist Jan Groth (1938-2022), whose work focused on the simplicity of line and picture plane.

With a sculpturesque background, Inger Johanne Grytting transitioned to painting surreal subjects with natural elements in the early ’90s. She was always focused on energy and nature, as well as light reminiscent of her home country Norway.

This is Grytting’s first time displaying her artwork in a solo exhibition at the gallery and includes more than twenty-five pieces from the 1990s to the present day. The curator, James Cavello, has kept with the gallery’s program of featuring artworks that highlight the culturally rich historical Artistic District of Bowery.
