Have you heard of The Wing?! With locations from New York to Washington D.C., The Wing is a female-powered co-working community space for creative women reminiscent of the women’s club movement from the 19th and 20th centuries and I’m seriously smitten with the concept! Fresh off the wings (ha!) of International Women’s Day, it seemed like the perfect time to share this decidedly feminine and wonderfully empowering space.
Founded by Audrey Gelman and Lauren Kassan, The Wing aims to fill the void left by the nearly 5,000 social clubs that cropped up during a time when women most needed an encouraging community. “The idea for The Wing really became resurrecting that concept for contemporary women,” Gelman recently told Harper’s Bazaar. What better time to tackle that task than right now?
With an inviting atmosphere that lends a nod to retro style, a genius branding suite designed by the all-female team at pentagram, services like a blow-dry bar, coffee shop and a place for taking conference calls, it’s the perfect place to network or get some seriously inspiring work done. I’m obsessed with Joana Avillez’s illustrations that adorn the walls, the throwback photo booth, pops of millennial pink (I just can’t let it go!) and all that dreamy velvet.
Since the extent of my proximity to The Wing exists online, I’m happy to ogle their instagram account frequently and secretly pray for the day that I can set up shop with my laptop and a lofty idea at one of their (expanding) locations. The social media platform boasts their signature style with a hint of sass (think inspiring snaps of our favorite ladies like ranging from suffragettes to Beyonce). It’s definitely worth a follow!
