Lowe’s Home Improvement has grown from one small-town hardware store in Wilkesboro, NC, to one of the largest home improvement retailers in the world. Guided by its mission—Together, deliver the right home improvement products, with the best service and value, across every channel and community we serve—Lowe’s continues to evolve with purpose. After celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2021, the Fortune 500 retailer opened the Lowe’s Global Tech Hub in South End Charlotte, NC, a bold move that positioned the brand at the intersection of retail and technology innovation. The result became a catalyst for local development, a neighborhood partner for the community, a magnet for diverse technology talent, and a new competitive advantage for one of the nation’s top retailers.

Driven by a surge in online sales and a growing need for cutting-edge in-store tech, the new hub has become a cornerstone in Lowe’s digital transformation. Despite global disruptions, Lowe’s pushed forward with creative partnerships and a resilient mindset, resulting in a dynamic workspace for over 2,000 technology associates. This high-tech, collaborative environment not only enhances the employee experience but also fuels innovation that improves the customer journey.

Designed for today’s hybrid work environment, the Tech Hub features adaptable pods, flexible workspaces, a quiet library, and a two-story auditorium with skyline views. It houses a state-of-the-art Innovation Team Lab focused on AR/VR and offers spaces for socializing and relaxation—including a rooftop terrace and calming lounge. This enhanced office arrangement has boosted productivity and employee well-being. Meanwhile, thoughtful design elements reflect Lowe’s heritage, from industrial-style sculptures to home improvement artifacts repurposed as art. To support the brand’s dedication to innovation and technology, guests are welcomed to the space by a large-scale screen portal with compelling digital content, which leads to a video wall featuring evolving branded content at the elevator lobby.

Lowe’s new office space in South End has also helped grow the ever-changing area. The project’s scale and prestige served as a catalyst for development in South End, inspiring other businesses of similar size to invest in office spaces in the neighborhood. The Tech Hub also brought more than 2,000 associates to the region, sparking quick expansion in food, beverage, and service retail to support the entire community.
