being stuck at home right now, it’s the ideal time to organize the heck out of our homes, cleaning closets, emptying out those junk drawers, and releasing the stash of stuff we’ve been hoarding in our garages, let’s not ignore our shelving! shelves, too, can be in need of tidying. i like to give my bookcase a good going over from time to time — arranging the books by spine color — yes, i’m guilty of this — but don’t judge me, because i’m a very visual person, i tend to remember the spine color of a book which makes it easier to find. but i organize books also by category, i.e. cooking, design, fiction etc. i also like to coordinate my accessories and collections by ‘like objects’ which keeps them from looking too cluttered. for example, all white pottery hangs out together on one shelf, while black pottery is grouped together on another. call me crazy, but i just think it’s more cohesive and looks less like a bunch of junk versus an actual collection. these examples of shelving look quite nice and some of these shelves are even very unique and almost like artwork or have a sculptural look, too. i do love a good inset or built-in shelf. here’s to tidy shelves! and for more inspiration check out my shelf life pinboard.
