Keane’s fascination with architecture began in his teenage years while studying in England. Introduced to art history and classical architecture, he became captivated by space and three-dimensional design. As he pursued his studies, he observed how emerging digital tools influenced architecture, particularly the transition from 2D to 3D interfaces. These early insights shaped his practice, where he continuously explores the intersection of technology and sustainable construction.
Sustainability at the core
Keane’s relocation to Thailand was a pivotal moment, immersing him in South-East Asia’s resource-conscious approach to architecture. Unlike the overcompensation often seen in Western construction, Keane found that working with organic materials such as bamboo, rattan, and palm leaves led to more efficient and aesthetically harmonious structures. His practice thrives on a philosophy of refinement – eliminating excess and honing in on what truly matters.
From yoga studios to airports: Scaling innovation
One of Keane’s most defining projects was a yoga studio in an urban setting. The client, a highly respected sensei, sought a space that embodied the discipline of yoga – natural, fluid, and reflective of its philosophy. Keane designed a sanctuary of pods, wrapped in plant-based materials, creating a tranquil escape within the bustling city.
This project set the stage for larger commissions, including a groundbreaking transformation of Bengaluru Airport’s departure area. The challenge: to infuse the sterile airport environment with an organic, garden-like atmosphere. Through innovative material choices and a commitment to sustainability, Enter Projects Asia created a space that defied conventional airport aesthetics – offering warmth, tactility, and a connection to nature.
A global impact
Operating in eight countries, Keane and his team embrace cultural diversity and regional sustainability practices. From master plans in Botswana to urban developments in the Philippines and India, their work balances functionality, aesthetics, and environmental consciousness. Each project is a testament to how architecture can be both innovative and deeply rooted in local traditions and ecological responsibility.
