i discovered this week’s while browsing instagram, and their incredible baskets literally blew me away. these beautiful and very often way oversized woven beauties are from , a fair-trade company founded by Gregory ‘Ayinedollah’ MacCarthy who has been traveling to and living in Ghana where is located since 1999. Gregory first went to Ghana to study cultural drumming with the “Ga” tribe, who are based in the Greater Accra Region. while there he had the quaint idea that buying some beads and cloth, and reselling them in Canada would be a marvelous way of underwriting his drum studies. That was the illustrious start of which is headquartered in Bolgatanga in Ghana’s Upper East Region where a beloved team of endearingly dedicated employees create these handwoven masterpieces — from colorful bike baskets, to those oversized works of art (i’ve been envisioning them repurposed as lighting fixtures). arriving at compound every day are dozens, sometimes hundreds, of weavers — many of whom has employed for many years and their skilled artistry plays a significant part in Bolgatanga’s cultural development. for more inspiration from , be sure to follow them on , as well.
