Returning to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on January 23-26, the Interior Design Show brings together the best of Canadian and global design under one roof. And while every edition of the annual fair is an essential part of the international creative calendar, this year comes with an added — and unmistakable — touch of Italian flair. This year, Florence and Milan-based architect Simone Micheli is designing the striking Italian Pavilion, a bespoke IDS 2025 installation that showcases an elevated sampling of design innovation from a diverse group of the country’s leading manufacturers.

You can’t miss it. Defined by its crisp white finishes and elegantly contoured forms, Micheli’s Italian Pavilion — which also features a espresso bar — creates an eye-catching yet understated palette for the nine Italian companies sponsored by the Italian Trade Agency at IDS 2025: Calligaris, egoitaliono, Cromolgy by Viero, Floema Cinova, Las Mobili, Londonart, Lumen Centre Italia, Moschella Sedute and Technogym.

Ranging from residential furniture and contract seating to lighting, wall decoration, wallpapers, doors and cabinetry — not to mention the world’s best-designed gym equipment — the eclectic showcase offers a distillation of the craft, creativity and cultivated luxury that define Italian design culture. The showcase is also representative of the deep cultural and economic links between the Canadian and Italian design industries. To wit: Italian furniture exports to Canada reached $405 million in 2023, with a substantial presence in the high-end design market. “We are proud to contribute, with Italy’s talented designers and experienced and flexible manufacturers, to making Canadian living spaces more beautiful, functional and innovative,” says Marco Saladini, the Italian Trade Commissioner in Canada.

On January 23, Micheli will also participate in New Emotive Design, a keynote talk taking place on the main stage at 2 pm. Joined by brand strategist and experience designer Annie Chou and Sid Lee Architecture co-founder Martin Leblanc, Micheli will draw on his extensive experience designing immersive — and emotionally rich — retail and hospitality projects around the world. Ranging from master plans to interiors and graphic design projects, Micheli’s impressively broad métier is anchored by a rigorous focus on creating sustainable designs that reflect and reinforce their cultural and geographic landscape. Get ready to feel something.
