Replacing the Mercure Sydney Martin Place, the fully rebranded and refurbished Sebel is set within the very heart of CBD on the edge of Martin Place. It’s located just around the corner, on Phillip Street, with prominent neighbours such as the Law Courts and colonial-era St James Church.
The multi-million-dollar refurbishment is spearheaded by Stack Studio’s design for the modern interiors. It’s a reimagination focused on crafting a hotel that is about “more than just rooms,” with sophistication and style at its core.
The replacement of the Mercure comes after an acquisition by Salter Brothers, who will join one of the largest hotel management portfolios alongside Accor. A total transformation of the property comes as a collaboration between them, all with a wider focus on the continuing revitalisation of the city centre.

The Sebel Sydney Martin Place now comprises 86 rooms, with Stack Studio’s refurbishment bringing the newly designed artful decor into each one. Set in the busy centre of the city, the accommodation nevertheless provides a space of calm and tranquility. Its Phillip Street entrance is unexpectedly quiet, tucked barely a block away from Martin Place, while the unassuming lobby and reception area is easy to navigate and understated.
Colourful carpets and funky signage define the corridor spaces enroute to the hotel rooms, which themselves feature some distinctive floor patterns. Stack Studio, alongside construction partner, Schiavello, has completed new, modern interiors designed to provide a stylish escape from the bustling surroundings while still allowing guests easy access and close proximity to the city life around the hotel.
Ambient lighting, including with stylish bedside lamps, highlights a range of tones and textures, while The Sebel’s artwork is on show and city views are offered from many rooms. The red-hued terrazzo finishes are another slick design feature of the individual rooms.

The ease of access by foot to the CBD, alongside the hotel’s uncomplicated and slick interiors, are perhaps the standout features of The Sebel Sydney Martin Place. Stack Studio’s design has realised a sophisticated and functional option for visitor’s to the very heart of the harbour city.
