spaces via frankie magazine. / sfgirlbybay

i thought it might be fun to share some of my favorite reads on a regular basis, thus ‘this week’s must reads’. i am a literary junkie, especially when it comes to design and decor books, blogs, zines and magazines, and these reads pop nicely into the book category. first up is spaces, published by the folks at the always charming australia-based frankie magazine — this is their fourth edition and i’ll be ordering this one stat! frankie’s project SPACES is a collection of eclectic interiors from around the world and it never disappoints and most definitely always inspires.

next up, columbia road by photographer by Johanna Neurath. after just visiting columbia road i had to order this book. it’s such a fun day trip — every sunday in east london’s shoreditch neighborhood is the Columbia road flower market filled with vendors vying for your dollar (or should I say pound?). it’s lively, beautiful and full of fantastic flowers. not to mention the array of cute vintage and new shops that line the road, so this book was calling my name. can’t wait to peek inside!

also via the UK, the makers of east london by Katie Treggiden shares what it takes to be a maker in a world of increasing mass production. With over 300 pages of color photography and interviews, it features ceramicists, bike builders, sign painters, globe makers, weavers, furniture designers, spoon carvers, and many more — a great read for all the craft folk out there looking for some hands-on advice.

a portrait of hackney by zed nelson. / sfgirlbybay

and one last book from across the pond, a portrait of hackney by Zed Nelson. we spent an inspiring afternoon in hackney wick, which is a creatively charged london neighborhood filled with artists and their studio spaces. we attended a wallpaper screening class with designer daniel heath which we discovered through airbnb’s new ‘experiences’, and it was wonderful to see such an interesting part of east london, especially one i’d never visited before. so this book is a must for me.
