It definitely made us realize we shouldn’t underestimate our backyards, they can be locations of major fun, recreation, and relaxation…depending on how we do them up. We’ve curated a collection of furniture designs to help you transform these exciting ideas into a reality. These designs will turn your yard into the ultimate relaxation destination. We bet you won’t want to step out of your yard, once you introduce these furniture pieces to it. From a reimagined picnic table to a minimal Scandinavian outdoor chair that will weather over time – these furniture pieces will majorly transform your humble backyard.
1. Foldable Lander
makes sitting much more comfortable and cozy in the outdoors! Much like you need power stations to carry electricity to the outdoors and tactical EDC in life-threatening situations, you need the Foldable Lander for a good seat.
Why is it noteworthy?
Designed to be compact and lightweight, the Foldable Lander measures a little over 13 inches in length when closed and weighs 2.8 lbs. Open it up, however, and it transforms into a comfortable chair with a backrest, capable of taking up to 100x its weight.
What we like
- Based on the principles of origami and the design of the Moon Lander’s four-legged landing mechanism
- You can strap it to your backpack, and it weighs less than a 6-pack of beer

- Lack of multiple color options to match your personal taste and preference
2. The Week-End Collection
by French design brand Petite Friture includes tables and chairs with slatted aluminum surfaces with a silvery metallic finish that gives the furniture pieces a refreshing and raw appearance.
Why is it noteworthy?
The intriguing shaped furniture pieces would add a dose of personality and amusement to your yard, giving it a playful element, and making it seem more inviting, appealing, and welcoming.
What we like
- Lightweight and stackable
- Sturdy and durable enough to handle the outdoors
What we dislike
- A set minimum amount of products needs to be ordered to qualify for the purchase of the finish, so not suitable for those who want to order fewer pieces
3. The Mass Table
Alexander Lotersztain designed for Derlot. The table is the reimagined and recreated version of the stereotypical and mundane picnic table!
Why is it noteworthy?
Alexander took the typical picnic table and transformed it into a unique flat-packed table in an almost fluorescent yellow color. Made from a sturdy combination of powder-coated steel and aluminum, the Mass table is ideal for both indoors and outdoors.
What we like
- Inspired by the iconic garden table, but a more sturdy and contemporary version
What we dislike
- The table can be used indoors, but we don’t think it would be a suitable fit
4. The Mondos
is a warm and cozy afternoon spent on a Southern Californian beach transformed into comfy and chonky furniture pieces. Designed by two California-based brands Laun and Chet Architecture, the furniture collection includes six pieces.
Why is it noteworthy?
The six pieces are inspired by Mondos Beach in Ventura, California, which is said to be the capital of the state’s surfing culture. The entire collection is designed to be bold yet low-key, inviting, and exclusive.
What we like
- Brings the beach to your backyard
- Inspired by the 1980s pool and garden furniture
What we dislike
- The entire collection is quite bulky, so it is only suitable for backyards with an ample amount of space
5. Conicent Chair
This unique-looking furniture design is called , and it features a cone with the front half chopped off, with the dropped top caving in on itself.
Why is it noteworthy?
The chair features a smaller inverted cone inside that serves as the main surface for sitting. Adding a cushion makes it a comfortable indoor chair, though leaving it bare makes it suitable for outdoor use – making it a versatile chair that can be utilized both indoors and outdoors.
What we like
- Comfortable and ergonomic design that supports you in all your sitting positions
What we dislike
- Needs a better material choice since it is designed for the outdoors
6. Stump Stool
is a circular and rather adorable-looking stool designed by Australian designer Alexander Lotersztain for the furniture brand Derlot. It can be customized with wheels or integrated lights.
Why is it noteworthy?
The stool is suitable for both indoor and outdoor environments. So, it would make an excellent addition to not only your backyard but also your living room. Plus its funky and colorful appearance would brighten up any part of your home!
What we like
- Available in a variety of colors and sizes
- You can add wheels to the bottom, making the stool portable
What we dislike
- Doesn’t look too comfortable & ergonomic to sit on for long durations of time
7. The Strap Furniture Collection
is a pretty cool one since it references 1970s poolside furniture. The collection includes 11 seating elements such as armchairs, stools, benches, loungers, and stackable chairs.
Why is it noteworthy?
The chairs are made up of aluminum straps that seem to be tightly wound around simple tubular frames. The various furniture pieces are inspired by the designer’s childhood memories of the sun loungers placed around his local pool.
What we like
- The collection brings childhood nostalgia to your backyard in the form of furniture
- Can be used even in university campuses, shopping districts, and other urban spaces
What we dislike
- The aesthetics could have been worked upon a bit, as it can be considered dry and boring
8. Bello! Bench
was designed by Fjetland for the aluminum producer Hydro, by drawing inspiration from pasta, or more specifically penne rigate!
Why is it noteworthy?
Informed by the design and form of pasta, the Bello! bench is a versatile piece of furniture that can be used indoors and outdoors. It’s been created from nearly ninety percent recycled and one hundred percent recyclable aluminum.
What we like
- Aluminum makes the bench sturdy, durable, and lightweight
What we dislike
- The shape of the bench is opposite to what we usually have, ergonomically speaking, which makes it difficult to sit comfortably and could lead to a slipping sensation
9. PINCH Chair
Say hello to – a revamped and renovated version of your typical plastic chair. With the PINCH CHAIR, Medium2 Studio attempts to give the traditional plastic chair a major redesign.
Why is it noteworthy?
Plastic stackable chairs are a pretty common sight these days, you see them almost everywhere, and you have been seeing them for ages galore. They’re practical and convenient, although they aren’t the most sustainable. However, Medium2 Studio decided to give the plastic chair a new look, creating a unibody and completely stackable plastic chair.
What we like
- A new and improved version of the traditional plastic chair
What we dislike
- Not a sustainable option
10. The Böste Lounge Chair
was designed by Stefan Borselius for the Swedish furniture company Skargaarden. The sturdy and minimalist-looking chair is designed to gradually weather over time.
Why is it noteworthy?
It is inspired by the classic Westport Chair and is in fact, a Scandinavian version of it. The form of the chair is pretty unique, with the back and seat meeting at an interesting angle, which invites and welcomes users to sit in a gently reclined pose which is great for relaxing and socializing with family and friends.
What we like
- Features a separate footrest that allows users to lie down fully and comfortably
- Built using sustainably sourced teak
What we dislike
- Aesthetically quite similar to other outdoor chairs on the market
