we’re headed far off the beaten path today and landing ourselves in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia, at the very charming — its minty cool confines, in fact, may make it hard to tell it was once the Mah Lian Hotel and a former brothel. reborn, it’s now known for its delicious Malaysian cuisine, all made with fresh herbs from their very own garden and seasonal locally grown food and produce, concocting such specialties such as their prawn noodles, made in-house with a deliciously rich umami-filled sauce of prawns, smoked fish roe, and butter. did i mention how hungry i’m getting? has just the kind of vibe i get excited about — authentic food served up in a uniquely cultural and historic ambiance. it’s quite warm in Malaysia even this time of year, so we’re dressing in light, easy travel pieces — a classic layered with a few and paired with a , comfy (but with a really cute print), and a chic to keep the sun off our face. we’ll tote along a fun should the evening get cool. need something to read on the plane? i suggest by Jean Hanff Korelitz about Jacob Finch Bonner, once a promising young novelist with a respectably published first book. now he’s teaching and struggling to maintain what’s left of his self-respect. but when his most arrogant student announces the plot of his book in progress is a sure thing, Jake is prepared to dismiss the boast as typical amateur narcissism. But then, he hears the plot. a fascinating must-read mystery that will leave you wondering who is the real story behind the plot, and who stole it from whom?
