alrighty, my friends, we’re popping across the pond to paradise today, but perhaps not the palm-lined beaches you might be imagining. instead, we’re actually headed to lovely, old londontown — and another surprise, we are not eating traditional English food. instead, we’re having Sri Lankan cooking with contemporary, ingredient-focused cooking doused with a fiery island accent at Paradise soho. the dishes here had my mouth watering and are based on family recipes influenced by Portuguese, Malay, South Indian, and Dutch cuisine and served up in a very brutalist-inspired interior — think spare steel and concrete, but somehow still cozy and charming. we’re going casual and feminine today, with a darling print summery vest worn over a matching black crop top and gathered skirt. add to that some cool but comfy woven black flats, my favorite bucket hat, a very chic shoulder bag, and a whole bunch of baubles. before we jet off to london, or on the flight over i suggest reading a classic — mrs. dalloway by virginia wolfe. the novel takes place over the course of a single day in a woman’s life in 1920’s London. There are flowers to buy, outfits to choose, but also a visit from a past lover, and the tragic fate of a young war veteran who cannot adjust to life in post-war London. Ms. Woolf’s mesmerizing account of this ordinary day draws us into the minds, perceptions, and emotions of an astonishingly varied and vivid cast of characters. brilliant!
