this week’s wear this there is located in a spot with a lot of cherished nostalgia for me. malibu farm is located on a very long fishing pier in malibu, california that as a foolish teenager (along with a few other knuckleheads) i would jump off of and into the ocean waves below as part of our regular summer fun. stupid, probably, and i don’t condone it, but i do highly recommend lunch at this charming seaside cafe. malibu farm serves up delicious farm-fresh locally grown organic food in an idyllic location with unbeatable views — you can’t anymore ‘ocean view’ than this. i can vouch that it’s a beautiful way to spend an afternoon, and wandering down to malibu beach after brunch for a swim and some sun-goddessing will finish the day off perfectly. we’re going to embrace our inner gidget with a cute daisy-embroidered blue floral shrug over a white tank top and pair that with some cute denim shorts. add to that a cute straw hat, tote bag, and easy slip-off clogs. don’t forget some chic sunnies, your bathing suit, of course, an easy cover-up caftan, and the cutest beach towel and umbrella. i suggest reading The History of Love by Nicole Krauss — a favorite of mine. in the Polish village of his youth, Leo Gursky fell in love and wrote a book. Sixty years later and half a world away, fourteen-year-old Alma, who was named after a character in that book, undertakes an adventure to find her namesake, save her family, and find a cure for her mother’s loneliness. the ideal afternoon beach read.
