ask og eng: a sustainable design studio.

I’ve been slightly obsessed with the idea of kitchen remodeling lately, and although it’s not in the cards for us just yet, I’ve been filing away all my kitchen ideas–mainly handmade Spanish tiles or plastered walls, white quartz countertops, and light colored cabinetry. I definitely gravitate toward airier kitchens, but Norwegian sustainable design studio, Ask Og Eng, completely changed my mind about walnut-colored cabinetry.

Ask og Eng is comprised of Kristoffer Eng, a trained architect, and Kine Ask Stenersen, who has a background in environmental geography and climate change. Sustainability was a non-negotiable aspect of their design work and manufacturing process, and they’ve chosen to work primarily with bamboo, because of its durability, quality, and the fact it’s more sustainable to use than wood. It grows exponentially faster than hardwood trees (it’s the fastest growing plant in the world), can self-generate through its roots, releases 35% more oxygen than trees, among many other benefits. It’s definitely got me thinking about how I can incorporate more renewable materials during our remodels. To learn more about bamboo and their work, you can visit their website here!

cheers, ezz.
