Audi’s new espresso machine brings TT-inspired design to your morning coffee routine

It’s not always that you find Audi associated with coffee, but when you do, you can’t miss it. Italian handcrafted espresso machine maker, Rocket Espresso, has entered into a partnership with automaker Audi to make discerning home baristas give their prized possession one hard look; does it still deserve the place it occupies?

Introduced as a new expression to the usual stainless steel coffee machines, the Rocket x Audi is focused on “design, proportion, and detail.” Handmade by Rocket and designed in Milan with the Audi Design Team and Valerio Cometti + V12Design, the espresso machine speaks of each involved brand’s distinctive and defining design language.

Designer: Rocket x Audi

The coffee machine is inspired by the clear surface, minimal lines, and the distinctive silhouette of the Audi TT. While the design is auto-influenced, the basic idea of the coffee machine is pretty native to the Rocket’s portfolio. To that end, it is based on the Rocket Bicocca model, but the resulting partnership variant is a distinctive interpretation of the espresso machine.

The dual-burner coffee machine is defined by its highly detailed and clear design language, which is meant to pair impressively with the specially developed Spluga grinder. The attention to detail is reflected in the machine’s sculpted curves. The matt aluminum body is built in contrast with deep black surfaces and base ascents that create a restrained but very precise visual language, which Audi is known for.

The feet in the base make the solid aluminum machine appear to visually float in the air. It comprises dual stainless steel boilers, and features a rotary pump. The biggest highlight, alongside the Audi limelight, is the integrated 3.5-inch touchscreen control panel of the machine. The dual burner is dedicated to brewing espresso at a precise temperature together, or can function at different temperatures when you need more power to steam milk.

The brewing unit of the Rocket x Audi espresso machines has a geometrically fashioned body, which seamlessly integrates into the housing to appear as one uniform element. The controls, including the rotary controls and the handle, highlight the unit with their glossy black accents. The built-in 3.5-inch touchscreen display in the upper area of the brewing unit gives the machine an intuitive way to work with its 0.5L coffee boiler capacity or the 1.5L capacity of the steam boiler.

The water tank of the coffee machine has a 1.8L capacity. The machine itself measures 409 x 465 x 400 mm and weighs 35kg. There is no word on the price or details about when the Rocket x Audi coffee machine will hit the market. But the kind of work that has gone into the detailing of this machine definitely makes it a high-ticket appliance worth every auto enthusiast.
