Baker McKenzie: Classical Design Meets Contemporary Workspace
The design for Baker McKenzie transforms classical Greek architectural principles into a modern workplace concept. This approach reflects the firm’s identity as an “Original Disrupter” while facilitating new ways of working. The office creates distinct areas for lawyers to meet, debate, socialize, and share knowledge through flexible spaces that adapt to various needs—from quiet contemplation to active collaboration.

Classical Forms in Modern Context
Interior elements draw from ancient architecture through proportion and form language. Modern interpretations of colonnades create strong yet playful repetition throughout the space. Arched porticoes frame intimate seating areas, while rounded, monolithic objects establish a grounded presence.

Material Authenticity
The design incorporates authentic, natural materials that reference classical architecture while maintaining contemporary relevance. Warm terracotta, rich wood, and natural stones were selected for their aesthetic qualities and capacity to develop character over time. These materials establish a tactile connection to history while serving practical workplace functions.

Artisanal Elements
Bespoke, handcrafted pieces complement the architectural features. Local artisans produced custom light fixtures, woven textiles, and hand-thrown ceramics that add distinctive character to the environment. These elements bring warmth to the space and soften the corporate atmosphere.

Balanced Design Approach
The project balances organic, handcrafted elements with sleek, modern finishes appropriate for a top-tier law firm. This careful integration creates a workspace that accommodates commerce, contemplation, collaboration, concentration, and celebration—reflecting the diverse functions of the classical public square while serving contemporary professional needs.

Functional Philosophy
The resulting environment transcends conventional office design by creating a place where ideas flow freely and collaboration thrives. The thoughtful use of natural materials and handcrafted elements connects classical architectural wisdom with modern legal practice, providing an authentic and purposeful environment for Baker McKenzie’s team and clients.
