i received an interesting blog post idea from a reader recently and i decided i was up for the challenge. reader Valerie had the quite brilliant suggestion that i write a post centered around the idea of being inspired by a song — visually — and that sounded like something that could be really fun, and hopefully very thought-provoking and inspiring for all of us. songs are so subjective and i think we all have a very distinct interpretation of the lyrics and melody based on perhaps where we heard the song for the very first time, or a place you are in your life and the emotions you’re feeling at that moment. this song, our house by crosby stills nash and young was about a sweet and special day in life during the love affair between joni mitchell and graham nash and written by him while they were living together in california’s very rustic and beautiful laurel canyon, where a lot of musicians landed in the late 60’s. so, in my head, i have this whole visual history that i imagine whenever i hear the song and this is how i’ve always envisioned them living and that very romantic, slow l.a. day in their lives. i imagine their place to be a little messy, cluttered with both of their beautiful collections, lots of records and books, and a very rustic and bohemian vibe. our house is just a sweet, touching song about a really simple day that brought two people closer. so here goes — i hope my interpretation gives you a smile or makes you remember what you think about when you hear the song.
