one of the amazing things about traveling around europe is how very ancient it is and the unique charm which that exudes. the architecture is awe-inspiring and gives you such a sense of history — here in america we just don’t go that far back and sometimes there’s not as much of an appreciation for the past and more of a look towards the future, so older buildings are often done away with. so i really love seeing these older spaces and even when they might be decaying in one way or another, i find a kind of celebratory beauty in that aging. older floors are so prevalent in europe and even very mismatched tile floors might share just a single household. the airbnb we had in palermo (just above) must have had five or six different tile patterns going on and it was beautiful. i thought i’d share a little bit of that kind of lovely flooring with you today. embrace the old and be inspired!
