, renowned for its professional-grade home appliances, unveiled ‘The Elevation of Gravity’ at Fuorisalone 2024 during Milan Design Week. The mesmerising installation nestled within the elegant confines of Villa Neccchi Campiglio’s glass pavilion from 16th to 21st April presented a spatial journey of Gaggenau’s brand evolution, dedication to innovation and commitment to conscious design.
Created in collaboration with Gaggenau’s long-standing architect partners, 1zu33, the dreamscape pavilion enveloped in semi-transparent fabric highlighted existing Gaggenau product range whilst providing a first look at future line-up. The 1,100-square-metre space was divided into two contrasting yet interconnected spaces, symbolising the equilibrium between the present and future.
Between the new generation cooling and the Essential Induction cooktop on display, the latter was undoubtedly the star of the installation. Presented on a circular platform, the Essential Induction cooktop that seamlessly integrates into a kitchen countertop was held in place by a singular slab of rock on one end, as if levitating in the air.
Designed exclusively to integrate with Dekton stone countertops that are available in different finishes, design and colours, the Essential Induction cooktop features illuminated front-mounted performance knobs in stainless steel or black and LED ‘dot’ lights on the seamless surface. They guide users during cooking, warn of residual heat and disappear when not in use – transforming the cooktop island into a multifunctional space for preparation, serving, dining, and socialising.
“It’s about eliminating the boundaries between preparation and living, offering the ultimate freedom in kitchen planning – a concept that will revolutionise modern kitchen design,” emphasises Sven Baacke, Gaggenau’s Head of Design.
To ensure optimal cooking performance, Gaggenau has also developed removable magnetic surface protectors for existing cookware, mitigating noise and safeguarding the worktop while maintaining optimal conductivity for the induction modules.
The Essential Induction cooktop presentation truly captures the essence of ‘The Elevation of Gravity’. The installation also saw contributions from renowned specialists such as flooring experts Schotten & Hansen, Italian natural stone masters Salvatori, and high-end espresso machine manufacturers La Marzocco.
In a groundbreaking move, Gaggenau enlisted the talents of Dirk Haubrich to create a bespoke ambient soundscape, enriching the sensory experience of visitors. Haubrich’s original compositions not only set the mood, but also complemented a contemporary dance performance titled ‘Gravitas,’ choreographed by the esteemed Philippe Kratz. Together, they infused the space with vibrant energy, offering an immersive encounter like no other.
Throughout Milan Design Week, Gaggenau treated attendees to a dynamic line-up of events, including interactive sessions, social events, and workshops. A panel discussion delved into the principles of reduction and essentialism in architecture and design, exploring their potential to enhance our daily lives.
