Everyone craves the cozy comfort of a well-designed home. While several DIYers prefer to work frequently on renovating and updating their homes, it’s not the same for those who know nothing about basic home repairs. If you’re in the latter category, you could just hire someone to do the renovations, but there’s the cost of renovation, which is often expensive. Here are ways you can upgrade your home without major renovations.

  1. Create an Open Space

Homes with an open floor plan where the kitchen, dining room, and family room share a large space are often top of the list of home buyers due to the plethora of decorations and arrangements it allows you to have. There are several ways to change your dining room style, and since formal decorations are not in trend, you can opt for a more appealing approach. Take out more oversized furniture and move the less bulky ones around until you get a perfect placement that gives extra space. If a big cabinet takes up too much space, consider using a warm off-white color to paint it and make it less visible in the room. The color will trick the eye into thinking the space is more open and airy.

  1. Add Extra Interior Lighting

A poorly lit room will look dark, cramped, and small, while an adequately lit one looks lively, open, welcoming, and airy. There are several ways to upgrade your home, and lighting is one of them. You can use an easy option like buying floor and table lamps. Strategically place the floor lamps in dark corners and the table lamps on side tables. If you want to take it a step further, you can replace your old ceiling fixture with more modern options available in the market. However, this might mean that you may require the services of a home builder with interior industry experience.

  1. Update Your Cabinets

Nothing makes your bathroom and kitchen look old-fashioned than dirty and worn-out knobs and handle pulls. Regularly update all door handles of your cabinet to give it a more renewed look. You can choose from several finishes like bronze, shiny stainless, aged copper, and brushed nickel. A country kitchen cabinet can look stylishly fashionable with modern door handles, while a modern kitchen can look elegant with a vintage-style knob. It’s up to you to choose which you prefer.

  1. Dress Up Your Windows

When you leave your windows bare, you’ll neglect an eye-catching layer of home decoration. While those who enjoy lovely views from the ocean or mountain might disagree, the best views can be obtained from a stylish window panel. You can dress your window according to your taste. For instance, you could go beachy with transparent white sheers, graphic and bold with a geometric curtain panel, or minimalist with a shade of bamboo. If you’re unsure of which color to use, you can pick a color that matches your wall.

  1. Make an Outdoor Room

Most times, we forget to look outside for some unused space. Even if you don’t have a backyard patio or large entrance porch in your home, there are still spaces you can use; you just need to be creative. The easiest way to create an outdoor room is by using a rug to define the boundary, then adding a few outdoor chairs and cushions with some string light and a small fireplace. If you want something fancier, you can lay down some flagstone or brick pavers, then use more outdoor rugs to layer it.

While there are more ways to update your house without significant renovations or costly expenses, these are some of the easiest ways to get the job done. So, study this list and get started!
