From Ford’s innovation labs to Microsoft, BOND and Spin, Hugh Miller has spent two decades shaping brands and cultural institutions with intelligence and craft. His next chapter begins at the global studio.
Pentagram has welcomed Hugh Miller as a partner at its London office. A graphic designer and art director, Hugh has built a phenomenal reputation for bringing clarity, rigour and elegance to everything he touches. From shaping strategies for blue-chip clients to creating identities for start-ups, museums, and galleries, his work seamlessly transitions between both cultural and commercial worlds.
Most recently, he’s been part of the research-focused Human-Centred Design unit at Ford, working with a global team to explore the future of mobility. Before that, he spent time in the brand teams at Nokia and Microsoft, helping to define both companies’ identities. In 2012, he co-founded the London office of international studio BOND, where he led projects that combined sharp ideas with material sensitivity and a strong sense of craft. Earlier in his career at Spin, he contributed to major campaigns and identities for clients including Whitechapel Gallery, Nike, MTV and Haunch of Venison.
His work has earned recognition from D&AD, the Type Directors Club in New York, Design Week Awards, the Art Directors Club and the Clio Awards. He has been featured in the Creative Review Annual and the Design Museum’s Designs of the Year exhibition. His record sleeve for SO: LO’s At the End of the World, Plant a Tree received the inaugural Freda Sack Award, the highest honour from the International Society of Typographic Designers (ISTD).
Typography sits at the heart of everything he does. He sees type as both an inspiration and a storytelling device, and his design archive reflects a lifelong curiosity for the subject.
Alongside his studio work, he lectures at Kingston School of Art and the University of Greenwich, sits on the ISTD board, and has spoken at TypoCircle and Eye magazine’s Type Tuesday. He is also a member of Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI). Earlier this year, Creative Boom named him one of its 20 Most Inspiring Graphic Designers for 2025.

“I had seen Hugh’s work long before I knew who he was. I found out who he was a few years ago when I judged the London-based ISTD competition, and Hugh was the first prize winner. I had enthusiastically voted for him without any idea that some day this person I had never met before would become my partner. That’s as it should be.”
Fellow partner Matt Willey added, “Hugh’s work always feels so effortless to me; sophisticated and timeless, and intelligent and beautiful. He’s just a wonderful designer and, much more importantly, a lovely human. I’m really excited that he’s joining Pentagram; we’re extremely lucky to have him.”
Hugh joins at a significant moment for Pentagram London, as the office moves into a new three-storey studio in the heart of Islington.
