if you’ve followed along with me for a while, you’ll know i love to read. i can’t go anywhere without a book in my bag, and a real book — not my ipad, which honestly i gave a good shot, but i just love the feel of the binding and paper pages of a good book. anyway, i digress. i’m taking a brief break this week to honor the veteran’s day holiday here tomorrow and also because of a whole bunch of personal things i need to attend to. i’d like to say i’m actually taking a book break, but alas, i am not. but!! i will be reading at some point in the week’s evenings and i’m currently working on jonathan franzen’s new novel, crossroads which i’m really getting into. good characters, good storyline — i like it all quite a lot. i also struggled a bit with sally rooney’s new book, beautiful world, where are you? but in the end i really felt a strong message about life these days (including blergh, social media) and was really happy i kept with it. as i’ve mentioned before, i track all my reading on goodreads and i like seeing what friends are reading, too. i find it helpful when you discover whose taste jives with your own and then check for their recommendations when in need of a new book to read. i’ve got a few good books on my to-read list right now, including The Lost Daughter by elena ferrante, The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles (who wrote a fav of mine a gentleman in moscow), and ruth ozeki’s latest The Book of Form and Emptiness (i’ve loved all her books, especially my year of meats). i’m always curious to hear about your favorite books and what you’re reading right now, so do spill the tea. i’ll see you back here on monday!
