The INDE.Awards stand as the Asia-Pacific’s most prestigious celebration of architecture and design, recognising projects that push boundaries, inspire creativity, and shape the future of the built environment. Now in its 2025 edition, the awards continue to spotlight excellence across diverse typologies, honouring work that is not only innovative but also deeply impactful in its design intent and execution.

Among the year’s standout achievements, the Best of the Best category, proudly sponsored by Platinum Partner Zenith, recognises the most exceptional project across all award categories. This year, that honour goes to Terminal 2 Kempegowda International Airport Interiors, a groundbreaking collaboration between Enter Projects Asia and SOM.

A new era for airport interiors

Spanning a vast 12,000-square-metres in the departures area of Bengaluru International Airport, the Terminal 2 interiors redefine what passengers expect from high-traffic, global transit hubs. Far from the cold, corporate aesthetic of conventional airports, this design embraces a biophilic ethos, weaving nature, warmth, and human-centric comfort into the travel experience.

At the heart of this transformation lies an extraordinary material choice: nine kilometres of handwoven, biodegradable rattan. Traditionally associated with boutique resorts and intimate settings, rattan has here been reimagined on an unprecedented scale. Every section was meticulously crafted at Enter Projects Asia’s Bangkok factory, with the process guided by bespoke logistics software to ensure sustainable and cost-effective delivery.

Innovation meets craftsmanship

The result is a harmonious blend of cutting-edge technology and artisanal skill. Organic forms flow through the space, creating a seamless integration of retail, hospitality, and relaxation areas. The tactile warmth of rattan softens the airport environment, reducing stress and enhancing passenger well-being, proving that plant-based materials can thrive in even the most demanding commercial settings.

By challenging industry norms, Enter Projects Asia and SOM have set a new benchmark for sustainable large-scale interiors. Their work demonstrates that ecological responsibility and high performance are not mutually exclusive but can in fact drive innovation and deliver exceptional design outcomes.

A global statement in biophilic design

Terminal 2’s interiors are more than an aesthetic triumph, they are a statement of intent. This project showcases how the architecture and design industry can lead the way in reducing environmental impact without compromising on beauty, function, or durability. It redefines the airport as a place of sanctuary, where travellers can reconnect with nature, even in the midst of a bustling international hub.

As the INDE.Awards 2025 Best of the Best Winner, the Terminal 2 Kempegowda International Airport Interiors exemplify the future of architecture and design, where sustainability, innovation, and human experience converge to create spaces that inspire on a global scale.
