As education is vital, the design of buildings for learning are pivotal to success and, this year, the winner of INDE.Awards’ The Learning Space showcases a “mixed-use” design that supports and enhances education. The Hedberg by LIMINAL Architecture with WOHA takes top honours in category with a sensitive and substantial design that promotes not only education but also community.

As supporter of The Learning Space, Autex Acoustics congratulates the architects for pushing the boundaries and providing architecture and design that enhances the education experience. As a sustainable manufacturer of exceptional carbon neutral acoustic products, Autex Acoustics is paving the way forward for all of us through best practice, just as The Hedberg has created a new architectural template for learning in its outstanding design.

Kirk Schmidt, general manager for Autex Acoustics Australia, reflects on the winning project saying, “The Hedberg stands out to us for its beautiful aesthetic details and striking form. We know from the use of our Quietspace® Panel, which was installed throughout the communal zones, that it’s an acoustically pleasant venue for visitors, while the considered use of texture and reclaimed elements make the precinct feel immersive and dynamic.”

Schmidt continues, “Efforts made by LIMINAL Architecture and WOHA to reduce the carbon footprint of the project, by conserving and reusing materials unearthed during the build, resonates deeply with our sustainability journey. Autex Acoustics is proudly carbon neutral in everything we do – across all acoustic products, global operations, and manufacturing. We are delighted to be aligned with a category winner who also shares our values and desire to contribute to the global effort in addressing climate change.”

Yes, after all we are all so aware that design and quality products can lead the way in helping to create a healthier environment now and for the future. However, it takes imagination and understanding of people and place to create an exemplar design as Schmidt comments, “The Hedberg thoughtfully balances its purpose and its history to create a harmonious space that celebrates both. We look forward to seeing more projects that amplify connection to place and tradition, as well as end-use.

The Hedberg is an important urban nexus of the University of Tasmania and the city of Hobart. The project’s vision presents a culturally significant performing and creative arts destination and education precinct that fuels Tasmania’s cultural offering in a contemporary global context.

The design of The Hedberg takes its cue not just from education but other sectors as well to present a connected, building that serves the different sectors that use it but the community as well.

Congratulations to LIMINAL Architecture with WOHA for a singular design that has been recognised as winner of The Learning category in the 2022 INDE.Awards.
